Calculator Policy
Fall 2011
At the recommendation of the seniors who graduates in the 2010-11 academic year, and after careful review by the CEE faculty of the alternatives, benefits and costs, the department has established a calculator policy. This policy is in effect starting with the fall 2011 semester. It will be reviewed annually by the graduating seniors and the faculty and remains in effect until such time that it is replaced with an alternative policy or rescinded.
The CEE Calculator Policy simply states,
“When taking examinations in classes offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, students may only use calculators that are approved by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) for use in taking the Fundamental of Engineering Examination (FE).”

However, for convenience, the list which is valid until November 15, 2011 is as follows:

Casio: All fx-115 models. Any Casio calculator must contain fx-115 in its model name. Examples of acceptable Casio fx-115 models include (but are not limited to):
- fx-115 MS
- fx-115 MS Plus
- fx-115 MS SR
- fx-115 ES

Hewlett Packard: The HP 33s and HP 35s models, but no others.

Texas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models. Any Texas Instruments calculator must contain either TI-30X or TI-36X in its model name. Examples of acceptable TI-30X and TI-36X models include (but are not limited to):
- TI-30Xa
- TI-30Xa SOLAR
- TI-30Xa SE
- TI-30XS Multiview
- TI-36X SOLAR
- TI-30X IIB
- TI-30X IIS
- TI-36X II
