CEE Complex

Mississippi State University, the James W. Bagley College of Engineering, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, embarked on a new building program about two years ago. In that time, the "New Civil and Environmental Engineering Complex" evolved into a programmed structure of approximately 89,000 square feet with a total project cost of about $27,000,000. At this time, the combination of university bonding commitment and private funds received or pledged total almost $17,000,000.

Using a competitive selection process, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration awarded the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering the 2007 Mississippi Summer Transportation Institute.

QUEST

QUEST is a BCoE summer research program to provide opportunities for gifted and talented juniors in high school to spend three weeks working in the laboratories on the MSU campus. The research is designed to allow scholars a chance to increase their knowledge and understanding of engineering by participating in research projects at Mississippi State University.

FACULTY

Dr. Miriam Smith will be joining the department on September 16th as an assistant research professor. Teaming with Dr. Isaac Howard, she will be working on a DHS-SERRI project titled "Increasing Community Disaster Resilience Through Targeted Strengthening of Critical Infrastructure." We welcome Dr. Smith to the department.


 

STAFF

On March 14th, Administrative Assistant Charlsie Halford and her husband Larry welcomed their son, Jacob Ezra into the world. He weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. and was 19 inches long. He is their pride and joy.


 

STUDENT

Graduate student John J. Ramirez Avila received the Soil and Water Conservation Society's Kenneth E. Grant Scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year.
