MDOT Pilot Education Program

Undergraduate Program

 

Eligibility

Undergraduates: Students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in the MSU Civil Engineering undergraduate program and will have completed 58 credit hours applying to the MSU Civil Engineering curriculum by the time they are accepted into the MDOT Pilot Education Program.

Academic Requirements
 
             
 
  • Completed 58 credit hours applying to the Civil Engineering curriculum.
  • Be a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of 15 hrs of course work appropriate for the Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Maintain a MSU GPA of 2.75/4.0 or better on all courses in Civil Engineering curriculum applicable toward degree.

Completed application package should be submitted to the above address.

Application Deadline:
Undergraduate applications are accepted one time per year and must be received by April 1. Acceptance will be for the following Fall and Spring semesters.

Benefits

Undergraduate students will receive stipends of $10,000 per year

Undergraduate summer intern position with MDOT (June and July)

 
             
  Commitment  
 
  • A contract is required between the student and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. This contract will include a minimum two year employment commitment with MDOT in exchange for the educational support and penalties for breach of this contract.
  • Fixed summer work period with MDOT is required as part of annual stipend.
 
  Selection Process

A committee of MSU Civil Engineering faculty and MDOT engineering staff will
evaluate applications to both undergraduate and graduate programs. The
committee will make recommendations to the Civil Engineering Department
Head.

A goal of this educational program is to help meet MDOT's long-term staffing
needs. These needs will change as positions are filled. Prior to the
application review process MDOT will determine its
staffing interests for the impending selection.

Undergraduate applications will be evaluated on the basis of GPA, student's
indicated area of interest in Civil Engineering and corresponding MDOT
staffing needs.
