Dr. Li Zhang, associate professor in Civil Engineering, has been named to an emergency evacuations task force of the Transportation Research Board, a division of the National Research Council. This 26-member task force focuses on preparing for emergency evacuations from natural or man-made hazards.

Climate change will have a particularly adverse effect on water supplies in many countries, according to speakers at a water conference in Canada. Demand for water will exceed supply in some areas by an estimated 40% within the coming decades and "[a]t unpredictable times, too much water will arrive in some places and too little in others," global researchers said. A $1 trillion market is predicted to develop for technologies and plans to discover, filter, manage, disinfect and distribute water by 2020.
