When Jocelyn Pritchett told her father what she wanted to do with her life, she remembers the flash of panic in his eyes. As a girl growing up in Bellefontaine, a small town in Webster County between Grenada and Starkville, Pritchett spent a chunk of her childhood shadowing her father, a surveyor for the state Forestry Commission. So when it was time to choose a college major at Mississippi State University, Pritchett settled on civil engineering “because it was closest to what my dad did.”
