Academic Advising students on progress toward satisfying degree requirements is a responsibility shared between the department’s Program Coordinator and a Center for Advising Advisor assigned to our school. Your academic advisor is determined by your progress toward your degree. Generally, freshman and sophomore students are advised by the Center of Advising Adviser, and Juniors and Seniors are advised by the Program Coordinator. Student will be contacted by their appropriate advisor each semester to set up advising meetings before course registration.
Review of progress is part of the one-on-one advising session between the student and advisor. This process is facilitated by the requirement for students to bring an updated flowchart to their advising meeting of the classes they have completed, the classes they are currently enrolled, as well as a plan for the classes they hope to take the following semester. In this way the advisor can confirm what classes have been taken and which are next to take. In addition to course planning and guidance, advisers are able to provide guidance on career planning, if such is sought by the students. Advisors are also available to meet with students by appointment throughout the academic year.
